Life Update: Changing Seasons, Back to School and Blogging

Hey! Its phoebs :)
I have so many post ideas currently, I have posts ideas for all of september pretty much! More of that later. But I was having trouble actually wanting to write today. But I tweeted out and Katie suggested I do a Life Update. I never really do these kinds of posts, and if I do I usually delete them 2 weeks later because of how cringey they are. Ah well, hopefully this will be mildly interesting and not a cringe fest!

Its coming up to the end of summer. I guess this makes me sad, as summer is my favourite season, but I prefer fashion in autumn and winter. There is so much more you can do with an outfit! I will be doing more autumn/fall fashion posts, so look forward to them too. With autumn nearly upon us comes colder weather, shorter days and the atmosphere is a bit grim, however you like to sugar coat it. But its not all bad. If you like halloween, that happens in autumn! Personally I am not a big halloween fan, I mean I will do stuff with my friends but its not a big thing like in the US. I think I am away over halloween and I bet this will be the year where I get invited to a cool party or something. Who am I kidding haha, no social life and proud ;)

I know a lot of you are back at school already, but I go back on Thursday.  I like school. I like seeing my friends every day, getting all the goss (there is a lot as its an all girls school) and I like some subjects. Unfortunately my timetable will be dominated with maths and science, all of which I despise. But I am looking forward to Music, Drama, German and Geography. If you are worried about school starting, my only advice would be to smile and put lots of effort in. Even if you hate school, getting good grades is always quite nice haha. Good luck to everyone going to new schools/uni/ jobs even.

I cannot quite remember how many BlogLovin followers I wanted to gain over the summer, but I have exceeded by far the amount I wanted. There are now 93 Chic Geeks , that is about the size of my school year! I cannot thank you enough, it means the world that you enjoy my posts. I am sure at the beggining of summer I had 54 followers, so I have gained nearly 40 followers in two months! Lets try and do that every 2 months haha. Also my goal was 10,000 pageviews, I am around 50 away but I have until next week to complete that goal, so lets achieve it! Also, from next thursday, my blogging schedule will change. Hopefully 3 posts a weekcwill be uploaded, one on Monday (a teen blogger series post) one on wednesday and one on saturday.

Another thing that has happened recently is telling my friends my blog name. I went nearly a year without telling them I even had a blog, and now that I know they are most likely reading this, probably looking for things I have said to embarras me scares me. Admittedly it also really excites me and I'm happy that its all out in the open. Its a lot of work blogging, so having the stress of your friends reading your work is worrying. But I think I am just paranoid, because so far they have all been lovely and supportive about it, so thanks guys! I love you hehe.

There we have it, my life update! I hope you enjoyed it, it was very relaxing to write.

Backtoschoolwithphoebs: Healthy Breakfast and Snack

Hey! Its phoebs :)
I feel like I have to be a little cautious with what I write now, coz my friends found out my blog name through excessive google searches. But I am going to go on like nothing is different so you enjoy the post!

Throughout the school year I try to change up my breakfasts a little to keep them interesting, healthy and most importantly, filling. I hate when my stomach rumbles in a lesson. One breakfast that is a classic for early mornings is porridge. It is so quick and easy. I know it is not everyones favourite, but it is good for you and fills you up. Apologies if you don't like it, but I love it!
All you need is oats, milk, sugar(or as a healthy sweetener you could use honey) and your choice of fruit. I used bananna because it is also filling and it corresponds with my after school snack.
I didn't do exact measurements but I like my porridge thicker so i used less milk. Addmittedly I should of added more as it was too thick, but hey. Just play around with it until you have the perfect consistency. Have the mixture on a low to medium heat and stir it.
Once the porridge was done I added one teaspoon of sugar and half a banana . And that is it!
If you don't have time in the morning, this is great. It takes max 10mins. Also if you don't like the toppings I chose you could change it up to your preferences.

After school it is so tempting to go straight for the biscuits. Now I am no health freak, so of course its normal to eat biscuits and sweet things, but it is nice to have a snack which you like and is also healthy, so you feel good. Really if you added granola this could be a breakfast but I like having this after school.
All you need is: Yogurt (greek is the most healthy, but I prefer vanilla) and fruit. I am using the other half of my bananna and strawberries. I know strawberries are going out of season, but just use a fruit that you like and is easy to get hold of. But if you want berries, frozen berries are great and refreshing because they are so cold.

I just chopped the fruit up firstly, then in my bowl I put two large desert spoonfuls of yogurt. Once I pit the fruit on top, done! It is so simple and healthy. Plus it tastes really great.

That was the penultimate post in my back to school series! I hope you enjoyed it, I have loved writing it. I know a lot of people are back at school already, so I hope you are having a good start. I start next thursday. *Sigh*

Anyways, hope you enjoyed this post, I would love to know your favourite breakfasts and snacks for school, I always need more inspiration haha.

Benefit Ultra Plush Lipgloss Dupe!

Hey! Its phoebs :)
My best friend Ellie recently posted a mac lipstick dupe post, which you can read hereAnyways it inspired me to have a search through my makeup to see if I had any dupes to show you, and I did!
My current favourite lipgloss is the Benefit Ultra Plush Lipgloss in A-Lister. It is a gorgeous pinky-nude colour which complements any makeup look- from a smokey eye, to winged liner, and even just mascara. I got the lipgloss a year or so ago as a birthday present, and it is around £20 which is pretty expensive for a lipgloss. I have found the ultimate dupe for £6.99.

The dupe I found is the Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Just Peachy. As far as packaging goes, there are a few differences but overall, on the lips there is little difference. Lets get on with the comparison.
I love how girlie the packaging of the benefit lipgloss (left) is. However, I prefer the Tanya Burr packaging because it is really chic and it looks expensive. Also the Tanya Burr Lipgloss is probably more safe in your bag, you never know when a lipgloss tube might explode!

It is easier to apply more product onto the lips with the Tanya Burr Lipgloss, because of the applicator. Maybe you find squeezy tubes easier to use, however I am not so keen!
Top: Benefit
Below: Tanya Burr

The benefit lipgloss is more of a pink colour wheras Tanya's is more nude. However on the lips not much difference can be seen.
As Tanya's lipgloss is easier to apply, you get better colour pay off. However with both products I do have to blend woth my fingers do get the desired look, as they can both come off too strong.

Left: Tanya Burr
Right: Benefit

Overall, neither lipglosses are sticky and both last as long on the lips as a good lipgloss should. The one thing Tanya's has over Benefit's lipgloss is the smell. Wow Tanya's genuinely smells like sweets! I could sniff it all day, though that might look weird haha.

If you are looking for a strong pinky nude lipgloss without breaking the bank, I would definately recommend Tanya Burr's Lipgloss in Just Peachy. It is avaliable in Superdrug and it is shipped worldwide from feel unique.

Hope you enjoyed this post, I enjoy doing comparisons, so if you want me to compare any products please let me know.

Top Coats this Autumn/Fall

Hey! Its phoebs :)
As summer is soon drawing to a close with longer nights, colder weather and back to school season, I thought I would start talking about Autumn/Fall fashion. If you are from the UK, you will know that as soon as the leaves fall down, it is pretty much winter until April. Sigh. I hate the thought of winter. Cold weather, waking up in darkness and endless days of school, but when winter does come around I don't mind it too much.

I am one of those people that gets cold super easily. For me to be warm in winter, I need layers and layers of clothes. And a good coat. Which leads me nicely onto todays post! I thought I would show you guys my top coats for Autumn/Winter 2014. Personally, I used to hate coats. For the past couple of years I would only have a gilet because I despised coats that much haha. As you can imagine, I was always freezing. So this year I have decided to take the plunge and look for the perfect, sensible, winter coat.

I have found four coats that I want to share with you, that are all different styles, different price points, and hopefully avaliable in different countries so I hope you find something you like!

Quilted Jackets are such a practical, chic piece for winter. They were a massive trend a couple of years ago, and since then have been a staple in most clothing shops. I really like the pattern on this one, it is quite preppy. However if you don't like the pattern, there are navy and a black colour option for this coat. This is the cheapest coat I have to show you, it is £29.99 from H&M.

I adore this coat. Military style jackets and this one is so bohemian from forever 21. I am not sure how warm this would be, so I would wear this as an autumn coat. As far as miliatry jackets go, this one is pretty cheap at £32.95. This would look great with a graphic tee, black leggings and chelsea boots.

If your style is quite edgy, this bomber jacket is for you. I love how it has tartan on the inside too. Bomber jackets are kind of like warmer versions of leather jackets (minus the leather) so perfect for the colder months. I love the outfit with this jacket as well. The jacket is a little more pricey at £55 from Urban Outfitters, but definately worth it if you will wear it loads.

Finally, this is the most expensive coat but definately my favourite. Parka jackets are an absolute classic. They go with anything and cater to anyone's style. This is £78 from Topshop, so quite pricey, but the coat is gorgeous guys! It has a fluffy hood too, double win. This coat would definately keep you warm, but stylish, and I love it.

There you go, I hope you enjoyed this post and comment which your favourite was! Also, I am 6 followers away from 90 on BlogLovin, so if you like my blog it would mean the world if you followed on there. Can we get 90 followers by the end of next week?

Cara Delevinge Makeup Tutorial

Hey! Its phoebs :)
Recently I saw a picture of Cara on Tumblr (you can check out my tumblr here) and I tweeted about it asking if I should do a tutorial. And here I am about to show you this tutorial haha. I really like the makeup look, her skin is natural with some bronzer, obviously she has bold brows, I love the smokey eye and the pop of colour with the orange lip. This look is quite full on, but I have toned it down slightly. I hope you can take bits of it  and add it to your makeup routine!

For my base, I am taking the Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer. I am using the greener shade to conceal redness and blemishes. Caras under eyes are not illuminated but they are concealed so the pinker shade was great for that. I used the powder that comes with the concealer on top of the product I applied.
For an even finish I applied my L'Oreal True Match powder with my buffing brush all over my face.
This photo is so awkward ha, but this is the look so far.

Next up, bronzer and highlight. Cara has defined cheekbones and jaw line, so I used my bronzer to chizzle out those features. I also swept the bronzer all over my face as Cara's skin is quite tanned. I used the Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush to do this.
For highlight I used the benefit High Beam. I used it on central points of my face, so my chin, cupids bow, nose and a small amound on my forhead. I also used some on the tops of my cheekbones, to enhance them further.
Awkward photo mark two! But that is the effect the bronzer and highlight gives. I don't have strong cheekbones so its not quite the same as Cara's haha.
Cara's brows were (as always) on point in this photo. Personally, I have quite bushy brows so getting the strong look wasn't too difficult. My holy grail brow product is benefit browzings. It is perfect. I applied the wax to shape my brows and I used it slightly below for added definition. I then used the powder all the way through them for extra darkness. I used a spooly lastly for an even result.
Obviously you don't have to make them this dark, do what you feel happiest doing.
All my eyeshadow was from the Naked Pallete. My base colour was a Rimmel Scandal Eyes Crayon in 011 Bluffing. I applied the white colour from the naked pallete (Virgin) over the top of it and in the inner corner and on the browbone.
I am then using a mix of Smog and Darkhorse in the outer corner and blending it out into the crease. To lighten things up I used a small amount of virgin on top.

For my crease I used Buck (a medium brown shade) and blended it into the two darked colours.
Incase any of the darker colours had blended with the white, I re applied the white all over my lid.
I can see some shimmer on Cara's lower lashline as well as the blue, so I used Half Baked (a golden colour) on the outer part of my lower lashline. Then I applied Gunmetal (shimmery blue) on an angled brush on my waterline and my lowerlash line. As the blue I used was a bit darker than the one Cara has on, I used Virgin again on top of the blue.
Cara had very fluttery lashes, especially at the outer corners.
I wiggled the wand of my mascara at the root of my upper lashes to get more volume. Then I only applied mascara to my other lashes for a fluttery look.
Finally, for the bold orange lip, I used a Revlon Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya.
And we are done!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and found it helpful. Sorry the majority of the eyeshadow was from the naked pallete, it just seemed suitable for the look. If you have any Naked Pallete dupes, comment below!

Best Friend Tag!

Hey! Its phoebs :)
Today something very exciting happened! My real life, completely non virtual best friend ellie, started a blog. The deal was if she started a blog, I would tell her my blog name, which I did so she is probably reading this now haha. Anyways in honour of her starting a blog, we decided to do a collab post on my blog today, The Best Friend Tag. Ok admittedly we have not been tagged to do this but that is not the point. Ellie's blog is called Fuchsia Flamingo so go show her some lurrve guys! She also has twitter too, so go follow her here.  We modified some of the questions slightly as the tag is made for two youtubers. On with the post!

Inside Joke? Haha the rumours! *says rumours in an extremely weird accent*
Ellie: Stage two blending!
Me: haha basically we gave each other eye makeup 'tutorials' and kept going on about how blending was extremely important. We had just gotten Revlon Blending Brushes soo it makes sense...kinda...

Who takes longer to get ready? Both around the same time I guess. It really depends on the occasion.

Favourite Season? Mine is summer, definately.
Ellie: I like Summer going into Autumn, september is my favourite month for seasons.

Back To School Supplies Haul #backtoschoolwithphoebs

Hey! Its phoebs :)
Before I begin I would love to know what other posts you would like me to do in this series! Once I get a couple more items I will be writing a bag essentials post, so look put for that. Just comment/email/tweet me what you wanna see. Here are the post in the series so far:

I go back to school on 4th September, so I am quite early getting these supplies. But anyone who has had to face Rymans on september 3rd , will know, all the good stuff goes early. So I was in town getting school schools (I got black pumps from clarks if your wondering) and me and my mam decided to just get stationary as well. Disclaimer: My mum did buy all this stuff for me (danke mum!) but I am not trying to brag, this post has actually been requested a couple of times. Lets get started!

I am starting my GCSE years, so I needed bigger folders for sciences because last year, this years, and next years work needs to go in them. I like keeping all my work in one place so I did get a lever arch file for each science. I have to do all 3 sciences, which is a bit of a pain but ah well. I am reusing some folders from last year too and I DIY'ed them so check that put in the post which is linked at the top.
These are from WH Smiths.
I will be using dividers as well, but I forgot to get them which is really annoying, so I will have to go in again at some stage.
My pencil case is also from WH Smith, and it is so cute. If you need a new makeup bag, definately check out the pencil cases in the shops at the moment, coz they are cheaper than most makeup bags and really sweet!

For my pencil case, I got biros and ball point pens to take notes in. I like using colour for key notes, so I got this pack of paper mate ink joy pens. I am reusing highlighters from last year, so I didn't get them again.  I also got colouring pencils, which I only really use for diagrams in geography. All of this I got in Rymans.

Also from Rymans, I got pencils, a maths set and a long ruler. The maths set actually comes with a ruler but I loose things all the time so it will come in handy.
I really like notebooks. I hardly ever use them during the year, but I am determind to this year haha. I love the colour of this green one. I also got a project Pukka Pad, which I am planning on using for revision this year. I really like doing spider diagrams for revision, so this just keeps them in one place. I also got a green plastic wallet for geography, because I am not sure if I need a folder but I got one just in case.

Finally, I got post it notes. I love the mini ones, I will be putting them on key pieces of work and just things like that. A pad of real brand post its was £6.99 so I got 2 pads from the bramd Stick n' for £4, which was a pretty good deal.

I hope you enjoyed this school supplies haul, would love to know your thoughts on my back to achool series and what posts you want to see in the future for this series.

Update! Announcement Featuring Kylie at M&Co

Hey! Its phoebs :)
Today I have some pretty cool news to share with you guys! Addmittedly you may not find it as exciting as I do but anyways.

A while back I got an email from Kylie at M and Co asking if I would like to enter a summer bloggers competition and I was very flattered they had asked me to enter. You can see my post entry here if you are interested. Since then I would sometimes just browse through the Kylie website. Recently I made a collage of pieces from the Kylie at M&Co range that I liked, and posted it on social media, thinking nothing about it at all really.

The next day I got an email from someone working for Kylie, saying that they had seen my little collage,  and thanked me for supporting their brand. Long story short, every month I will be selecting my 'Top Picks' from the new arrivals section on the Kylie site and writing a post on them so you can see my top picks as well!

Yes, the brand has asked me to do this, but no I am not getting paid, and it will still be my 100% honest opinion. I am very passionate about clothes and will not recommend you clothes from their site that I don't like. Also, I am all about what you guys want to read, so if after a couple of posts of my Top Picks I can tell you are not enjoying them, I will stop doing them. I am so excited that Kylie want me to recommend clothes to you guys, I would never of got to do little ideas like this if it wasn't for my blog.

Over at Kylie, they are celebrating 25 years of their collection, and their current designs are catered towards their birthday. It features 'party prints' and 'statement tees.'  Nicola, who works at Kylie sent me some pictures of clothes in the feature, so I picked what I like best out of them to tell you guys about now.
I really like this crop top (£10). The pattern is really cute and bright, it also has little ties at the side which complete it. With jeans or leggings, this top could be great for transitioning from summer to winter.
I really like 'edgy' clothes and this biker jacket (£30) is right up my street. Jackets like this always make an outfit have a slight edge. Plus biker jackets never go out of style. I like how this jacket has a zip, so if it gets a bit cold you can zip it up for a little extra warmth haha. I would wear this with acid wash jeans, plain coloured top, a statement necklace and black chealsea boots.

I really hope you enjoyed this post! I havent replied to comments for a few days now but that is the next thing on my to do list, so if you have commented on a recent post, keep checking back coz I will reply soon.

Base Makeup Routine!

Hey! Its phoebs :)
I personally love reading foundation routines so I thought I would show you my own today. At school I would not wear this look (you can see my school makeup tutorial here ) and on weekends/holidays I would only wear this if I was actually doing something that day. As always, I am a 14 year old girl, so you may disagree with how I do my base makeup but currently I like my routine so yeah. Lets get started :)

For foundation, I really like to take my time stippling/buffing the product into my skin. I only apply foundation where I need it. I squeeze a pump onto the back of my hand, dot it over my face and stipple it to a certain extent. I will just show you what I mean in pictures haha. I use the max factor face finity foundation ( shade-beige 55), mac 187 brush and real techniques buffing brush.
I stippled to this stage with my mac 187.
I now just alternate between stippling and buffing until I get the desired look.
Now for concealer! I use the L'oreal True Match in Vanilla. I blend it all in with my fingers. If it looks cakey, I use the real techniques bufffing brush to really blend it in.
For powder, I use the soap and glory kick ass powder over the areas I concealed. I use the 17 face brush to do this. Mine is quite old, I tried to new 17 brushes and I did not like them.
On the areas where I didnt apply foundation, I am using the L'Oreal true match powder in Rose Vanilla. I use my buffing brush to do so.
Currently I look like a ghost so its time to use some bronzer haha.

For bronzer, I use my bourjois chocolate box bronzer. I use it on my jawline, cheekbones and the sides of my nose. I use the retractable kabuki brush from real techniques to do so. I apply a timy amount of the MUA blush in candy floss to the apples of my cheeks.
That is all my base makeup! Obviously this is very full on and I only wear this much if I'm going out or doing something fancy. Usually I wear just concealer or BB cream, something more natural. But I do like being able to do this look for special occasions too.

I hope you enjoyed this post and found it helpful. Comment below what is your favourite face makeup product.
